St Paul’s Letter to the Romans is the most significant of Paul’s letters both theologically and historically. It is his longest letter, written in the mid to late 50s and may well have been the last that he wrote.
Paul wrote to the Christian community in Rome: “To all the beloved of God in Rome” (Romans 1:7). This was a Church he had never visited and never evangelised; but, he gave thanks for their faith known throughout the world, told them that he prayed constantly for them and longed to see them (1:8-11).
