By luck (or perhaps, more accurately, providentially), Killala1 diocese stumbled on the concept of synodality. It was back in 2015, even before Pope Francis had refined what seemed a new and visionary idea and had concluded that its adoption was ‘what God expected of the Church in this millennium’. Synodality, it soon emerged, was no more and no less than a key component of the vision of the Second Vatican Council: the Church is the baptised.
