It is clear from his Apostolic Letter on Liturgical Formation, Desiderio desideravi [= DD] (2022), that Pope Francis hoped that formation would be approached, not from the “top-down” as was presumed in previous Roman documents on liturgy, but with a desire to engage the widest possible participation of believers.1
