3.50

As a new year and a new decade begins, reflection on the events of the previous year allows for a certain amount of analysis and evaluation. Dominated by Brexit and mass protests in France and beyond, one event in 2019 seemed to have had a profound effect. The news of the fire that devastated the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris on April 15th 2019, the Monday of Holy Week, resonated around the world. Many people recalled their visits to the Cathedral in the past and most felt a genuine sense of loss for what had been the symbol of Paris for hundreds of years before the erection of the Eiffel Tower in 1889. News that the damage, though extensive, was not beyond repair was met with a collective sigh of relief worldwide.
