Seventy-five years ago, the United Nations General Assembly enshrined the care for the dignity of fellow human beings in universal, non-negotiable, and inalienable human rights, as the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace in the world. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights aligns closely with the fundamental tenets of Catholic Social Teaching, at the core of which “is the commitment to the dignity of the human person, created in the image and likeness of God” and “belief in our innate dignity or the sacredness of life.”
