One reaction to last month’s piece on the response of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith to a question about the blessing of gay unions was that it went around the houses, as the saying goes, instead of coming directly to the point; the point on this view being that the Responsum and Explanatory Note were singularly ill-judged, as was clear from the comments of Cardinal Schönborn among other senior churchmen. What more is there to say?
